Glory Reinstein - Creative Liaison & Licensing
Throughout her adult life, Glory (Douglass) Reinstein has been an avid listener and supporter of Triple-A and Americana radio and independent artists. Her love for indie artists began with her own son, Gregory. Watching him and other local indie artists struggle to be heard, she started a company to help promote them. The company began with radio promotion but now incorporates other services that indies can choose from. She has capitalized on her many contacts in the industry and continues to provide independent artist support while working within the artists' budget. Glory completed course work for a Music Business Specialist certificate through Berklee School of Music in Boston working under the tutelage of George Howard (former President of Rydodisc Records). She has since established Brave Bird Music Publishing/ASCAP and Malletts Bay Records and is a member of AMA.
Glory is a veteran and award-winning Vermont music educator who has impacted hundreds of high school students throughout her career. She received her B.S. in Music Education from the University of Vermont and her M.S. in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University. Her former leadership roles include President of the Vermont chapters of ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) and MENC (Music Educators National Conference) as well as guest conducting high school festival choirs throughout Vermont and northern New York. Glory has taught voice, guitar, piano, and clarinet, as well as music theory and composition. In addition, she has arranged and composed music, and currently holds the position of assistant conductor for Bella Voce Women's Choir of Vermont.
ARTIST BIOS
HOTELS & HIGHWAYS--At a crucial moment of quiet intensity, the members of Hotels & Highways heard the wind rustling the trees in their headphones. For any other project it would have been an unwelcome signal to cut the take short and try again when there was golden silence. Instead, the three newly-committed band members smiled at their good fortune and carried on playing, the wind and trees now indelible partners in the song’s performance. It was September 2010 and Erin "Syd" Sidney, Lisa Piccirillo and Patrick Thomas were getting to be well-versed in letting their temporary home in the woods be a part of the creative process. They’d come to a lakeside cabin in New York to fulfill a mutual, career-long dream of living together while recording an album. Real-time support for the group evolved into validation that only a proper release would do this music justice. Through the use of fan-funding website Kickstarter, the band raised over $13,000 (far surpassing their goal of $10,000) to finance the remaining production on their album and a corresponding national tour. With this massive vote of confidence from their fan base, Hotels & Highways' cabin-grown debut, "Lost River," hit digital stands on March 8, 2011. Leaving behind the sounds of that lake in New York, the band shared the spirit that defines them and live up to their name with a 6-week tour of the US, including a showcase at SXSW in Austin, TX, March 2011. They are headed out again soon!
EDIE CAREY--Accidental Poet, one of Edie Carey's earliest songs, describes a particularly eloquent friend, but could just as easily refer to Carey herself and the circuitous and serendipitous route that led her to become one of the country's most notable young songwriters. Somehow, all of the seemingly unrelated turns from her intention to become a doctor, to a tiny music room in the basement of a Morningside Heights' chapel, to a year in Italy managed to steer her towards music. Born in Burlington, Vermont and raised in the Boston suburbs by her English teacher father, therapist mother, and poet stepmother, Edie Carey couldn't help but learn to love words. Since 2000, she has been working as a full-time performing songwriter, touring rigorously to promote all of her independently self-released records, which now include Come Close, her 2002 live CD, When I Was Made (2004), and the latest addition to her growing catalog, Another Kind of Fire (2006). Looking back, she has to wonder if maybe this wasn't an accident after all. Edie was selected to perform at Cayamo Cruise with the Indigo Girls, Brandi Carlisle & Patty Griffin, as well as performing on Sweet's Inaugural Carribean Cruise with comedienne Suzanne Westenhoefer, and award-winning songwriters Jen Foster and Adrianne this past November. She was also asked back to perform on Cayamo 2010 with Emmy Lou Harris, Steve Earle, Brandi Carlile, Lyle Lovett and more! Edie released "Bring The Sea" in Nov. 2010. A video of "Love" is forthcoming.
AMBER deLAURENTIS--signature pounding piano style and powerful vocals drive a diverse catalogue of melodic original songs, carefully crafted with her long-time lyricist Sarah Blue. Their songs are at once contemporary and timeless --
characterized by one music industry executive as instant Classics. deLaurentis, both individually and with her band, has compiled a considerable resume. The Amber deLaurentis Band was one of six finalists (chosen from over1,200 entrants by the editorial staff of Billboard Magazine) to play before a panel of 12 heavy-hitting industry judges, in the Northeast chapter of the 2002 Independent Music World Series, where their "home run" performance won the Grand Prize. deLaurentis and Blue then went on to take second place in the pop/rock category of Billboards International Songwriting Competition for their song Lonely in Love, and earned an honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for "Calliope Calling". The Amber deLaurentis debut EP "By George! Live at the Tin Angel," was voted "Best Live Album" by the Just Plain Folks Musicians' Network. Her last record, "Hey Sadie", was released in 2008. She released a holiday single, "All Year Long" in 2010 and is currently working on a full-length CD to be released in 2012. She resides in Vermont with her musician husband Tom Cleary who recently toured with Mike Gordon (Phish).
GREGORY DOUGLASS-- is an undeniable, pure talent. At the mere age of 29, the established musical virtuoso has seven critically acclaimed, independent CDs under his belt, displaying the songwriting skills of an "old soul" and "the voice of an angel" (Seven Days). Gregory was named "Emerging Artist" by Triple A radio and "Rising Star" by iTunes during 2009, and in 2010 was named top male vocalist of Vermont along-side Grace Potter as top female vocalist of Vermont. His independent efforts and passionate performances have produced legions of unique fans, a dedicated team, and the foundations for long term success. Douglass' evocative amalgamation of contemporary folk, pop, and rock have been compared to Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley, Patty Griffin, Rufus Wainright, and Peter Gabriel, while he has been equally impacted by his love for underground female singer/songwriters. His intense, high-energy performances as both a solo acoustic artist or with his full band are consistently solid. He has toured with They Might Be Giants, and been co-billed with India Arie, Tracy Chapman, Eric Hutchinson, Melissa Ferrick, Dar Williams, Margaret Cho, and Jason Mraz to name a few. Douglass has mastered the art of grassroots promotion with the help of his fan base. His last four albums were financed almost entirely by the support of his fans pre-ordering and contributing donations directly through his website. His critically acclaimed CD "Battler" released in March 2009 featured fellow Vermonters, Anais Mitchell and Grace Potter. His first holiday EP, "Merry", was released November 2009 with another holiday single, "Imagination", released in 2010. His eighth full release, "Lucid" is due out June 2011--a dream-inspired concept album--also financed with the help of his fan-base.
PATRICK FITZSIMMONS-- The former member of From Good Homes (RCA), a folk/rock band based in New Jersey, moved to Vermont in 1999 to be closer to his daughter, Molly, and embarked on a solo singer/songwriter career. Battling cancer through the recording of his 2008 release, "So Beautiful So Blue", Patrick is now in remission. He continues to tour the Northeast winning over audiences with his soulful and captivating performances. Fitzsimmons is a three-time Ploughshares songwriting contest finalist and has had his songs placed in several independent films. As one of the top-charting artists at Folk DJ, in the top five most added Americana artists, and in the top 15 of the Roots Music Report, AAA editor, John Schoenberger, calls "So Beautiful So Blue" one of the great new releases. His song, "The Girl With the Sad Eyes" was nominated for the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards held in Nashville. During his career, Patrick has shared the stage with Bob Dylan, The Dave Matthews Band, Ellis Paul, Lucy Kaplansky, Joan Osborne, and more recently, Dar Williams. Patrick is currently working on a new studio record to be released fall/winter 2011.
CASEY LYNN DUBIE--stepped into a studio just days after high school graduation, June 2010, and recorded her first EP--"In Your Atmosphere" (Malletts Bay Records). Her songs cross over between Folk/Pop/Christian music. Her music was inspired by John Mayer and her vocals have been likened to Taylor Swift. She has spent the past several months in Costa Rica doing missionary work and is headed to college fall 2011.
SCOTT FORREST--Spent time in Nashville and was nominated as one of the top songwriters when he resided there. Now living in Vermont, Scott continues to write and perform. His song "Os & Xs Rachel" (When I'm In Paris), was selected as a winning Valentine song and aired on Prairie Home Companion in 2009. Scott was recently voted runner-up in a statewide (VT) singer/songwriter competition. He is presently working on his next release.
LISA PICCIRILLO'S-- debut release, "Momentum", is nothing short of an emotional catharsis. The up and coming artists first full-length CD chronicles poignant observations and personal experiences through a satisfying blend of folk and pop, allowing the R&B tendencies and technical intricacies of Piccirillo's vocals, to truly shine through. Lisa became involved with music from an early age, learning to play guitar while watching her dad as a youth. As Lisa grew, her musical edification did as well, drawing inspiration from the likes of Patty Griffin, the Indigo Girls, and singer/songwriter contemporaries Deb Talan (The Weepies) and newcomer Edie Carey. Lisa has toured the country as the back-up singer with renowned singer/songwriter, Gregory Douglass, who has shared the stage with Regina Spektor, Eric Hutchinson, Johnny Lang, and Tracy Chapman, to name a few. Momentum gained just that--momentum. She is presently 1/3 of the trio "Hotels & Highways".
LOWELL THOMPSON--Rolling Stone Magazine calls Lowell's latest release, "inspired alt-country". His self-titled album, "Lowell Thompson & Crown Pilot" is a mature artistic work featuring Mark Spencer (Son Volt), Page McConnell (Phish), and Grace Potter. Lowell has won numerous awards including Best Male Vocalist, Seven Days "Daisies" Readers Choice Award, 2009; and one of Vermont's Top 10 albums for 2009 and 2010. He is a national touring artist and has opened for Son Volt, ALO, Jeffrey Gaines, Justin Townes Earle, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, to name a few. As Glide Magazine put it, "The Vermonter's self-titled first album with the band Crown Pilot is a remarkably mature, self-assured piece of work the Rolling Stones would have been proud of." Lowell opened for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals for a hand-full of recent shows. He is now dividing his time between Vermont and Nashville, TN.
BOW THAYER--Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck's music come from a place that is rooted in the densely forested mountains of central Vermont. The result is a combination of no-nonsense traditionalism and forward-looking individualism that reflects the mythical stories of the people and rugged landscape of that state. Forging influences as diverse as Fugazi, Yes, Stax/Motown, Lowell George (Little Feat), Buffalo Tom, Jerry Garcia and Ali Farke Toure, the band has realized the full potential of its soulful, modern mountain music with its newly released full-length CD, Bottom of the Sky (now impacting at radio). It is hard to calculate the exact time of conception, but the roots of this band were formed in Elbow (not the UK version, but the original), a trio of Boston musicians that drew inspiration from the delta blues and foreshadowed the emergence of bands like the White Stripes and Black Keys. Around the turn of the century, Bow put down the slide guitar and picked up the banjo, beginning with the still in demand Benders who played a form of bluegrass that the traditionalists abhor but the rest of us cannot deny. Following a period of contemplative solo albums that culminated with the recording of Spend It All (featuring the legendary Levon Helm on drums and Morphine’s Dana Colley on sax), the Perfect Trainwreck happened. Bow hosts the annual Tweed River Music Festival in VT.
AARON FLINN--performs from the center of his soul to the center of his songs. His unique style incorporates Elvis to Bruce Springsteen and Jeff Buckley to Tears For Fears. Bearing witness to Aaron’s performances is much like watching a controlled hurricane, beginning to end. A prolific multi-instrumental songsmith, Aaron has performed across North America, Europe, Hawaii, and Australia, gracing the stages of such hallowed venues as Red Rocks, The Great American Music Hall, the Flynn Theatre, and the Fox Theatre (Boulder). He has opened for Govt. Mule, The Tragically Hip, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and, The Samples, to name a few. Flinn graduated from Berklee College of Music Magna Cum Laude and was named one of the best songwriters from Berklee. Other accolades include winning the Acoustic Guitar Search in Burlington, VT and best folk artist in Vermont, both in 1997. Aaron’s releases over the past 12 years have received critical acclaim and commercial success. “Oroboros”, his last and seventh release, is no exception. The 18-song disc takes the listener through a cathartic journey, from the birth of his first child to his observations of life and love, combining elements of folk, indie rock, and classic pop. Whether recording or performing, solo or with his band, Aaron Flinn is unstoppable. His vocal versatility exhibits a wide range as well as presenting different textures, from bright folk singer to dark rocker. His lyrics are confessional and personal. His intent is to make this world a better place—one song at a time. Aaron is presently working on his next release.
