Bow Thayer CD Release Party for "Eden" - January 6, 2013

BOW THAYER CD RELEASE PARTY FOR “EDEN” FEATURES FREE MEAL TO FIRST 100

The much-anticipated new album, “Eden”, is being released on the heels of Thayer’s 20-song retrospective album, “Hindsight”.  The album gives listeners an opportunity to familiarize themselves with Bow’s past discography before they are introduced to his unique form of ‘mountain soul’ that will be showcased on the new album.  Chandler Music Hall in Randolph, VT will host Bow and his band, Perfect Trainwreck, on Saturday, January 19.  Early-bird ticket purchasers can get a free meal if they are one of the first 100 people to reserve a spot at the table.

That's right... Bow Thayer has decided that this show is a benefit for BALE - Building A Local Economy - and, in turn, BALE is organizing a fabulous meal that will feature great food from area restaurants before the show. Dinner reservations can be made at the time tickets to the show are purchased. If tickets have already been secured or are purchased online, ticket buyers should call the Chandler Box Office to make dinner reservations at:

802-728-6464.

"We wish we could feed everyone," says Chris Wood, Director at BALE, "but the space will only hold 100. But what a great way to warm you up for an amazing evening with Bow and his band."

"Nothing much better than sitting down over good local food with friends and neighbors," he adds, "highlighted by a Bow Thayer performance at Chandler... what a hot winter evening!"

Chandler's executive director Becky McMeekin adds, "Chandler is delighted with this collaboration that celebrates the connectedness and passion of our local communities."

BALE is a community resource center for local economy initiatives in the White River Valley. Bow recognizes the work of BALE in the region, saying, "Small voices can only be heard in small audiences and there are many small voices to be heard. That is what makes projects like BALE so important. It is imperative that we learn to rethink technological achievements, take a step back, and learn to heal what has been scarred."

The community meal will take place in the Esther Mesh Room of Chandler's Upper Gallery at 5:30 p.m. BALE will ask for donations for the meal to help support its work in the area. A cash bar will be available.

For tickets and dinner reservations, please call the Chandler Box Office at 802-728-6464. Concert tickets can also be ordered online at www.chandler-arts.org.

Podcast Interview With Gregory Douglass - December 29, 2012

Happy Holidays! - December 23, 2012

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BLUEBIRD MUSIC PROMOTIONS—CELEBRATING VERMONT SINGER/SONGWRITERS

We wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a great holiday and happy new year, and to share a few new releases and events. Please use our website for your holiday radio this week where several songs are streaming for your listening pleasure.  This year we saw the birth of two babies--the first to Edie Carey and the second to Patrick Thomas (Hotels & Highways). After a brief hiatus, Edie will be back on the road with shows in IA, AZ, Mexico, and the Netherlands in the spring.  Speaking of Hotels & Highways, their single, Train Whistle (Lost River), was covered by the bluegrass band, The Hillbenders, who were recently signed to Compass Records.  Many thanks to our Nashville song-plugging buddies at Sharp Objects and congrats to both bands.  Hotels & Highways will be back out on the road soon supporting award-winning Australian singer/songwriter, Mia Dyson.  Mia’s recent CD, The Moment, was produced by Syd (Hotels & Highways) and received 4 stars in Rolling Stone.

Bow Thayer has been busy this year with the release of a retrospective album entitled, “Hindsight” that spans 14 years of songwriting since moving to Vermont.  Bow also hosted his annual Tweed River Music Festival.  A full-length documentary film of the festival will soon be submitted to film festivals.  And if that isn’t enough, Bow is releasing his next CD of new material entitled,  “Eden”, in late February.

Tropical Storm Irene VT Update - December 4, 2011

VERMONT CONTINUES TO RECOVER FROM
TROPICAL STORM IRENE DAMAGE

It has been 84 years since Vermont has seen damage like the damage brought by tropical storm Irene. It washed away many homes, knocked out 30 bridges including historic covered bridges, and destroyed 250 roads leaving people stranded. The VT State Offices employing 2,000 people came to a screaming halt. The VT State Hospital had to quickly farm out its patients to already crowded facilities. Two people died with another missing. And the list goes on. Vermont is slowly rebuilding with the help of national aid and projects by Vermont musicians.

The Vermont Relief CD compilation is one small way to help the cause. Local stores are selling the CD without taking a percentage. CDBaby.com is taking half the cost of what they typically take for distribution. A national music magazine is printing an ad for free. Bluebird Promotions/Malletts Bay Records are only taking the cost of manufacturing. The profits are being sent to the Vermont Red Cross. Please help spread the word.

OUR THIRD COMPILATION PROJECT JUST ARRIVED AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT IN YOUR HANDS!
The compilation is a benefit for Vermont Hurricane Irene Victims. Profits will be donated to our local Red Cross chapter. A list of stores is forthcoming.

ARTIST MINI BIOS FOR COMPILATION—2011
The “link” page will take you to each artist’s Website or Myspace page.

Not every artist can say they opened for BB King or shared the stage with Phish at age 16. But Seth Yacovone (rhymes with macaroni) can! Since those days, Seth has released a double-album entitled, Land of Split Decision, and gigs around the Northeast. Measured Mile (1), a Roots Rock tune, is the first track from that double CD and a great way to begin this CD.

Erin McDermott released Time To Go just a few months ago. It boasts a few Nashville heavy-hitters and Grammy award winners including Tim O’Brien. Time To Go (2) is the title track. She calls her genre FolkAss (a mix of folk and bluegrass).

Patrick Fitzsimmons barely escaped cancer, but is now in remission and working on his next release. The Waiting Place (3) was written for his last album, So Beautiful So Blue-a folk album that was recorded while undergoing cancer treatment. Patrick is a former member of the group From Good Homes (RCA).

Havoc (4) from Opaque EP was not written about Irene, but is aptly titled for this project. Award-winning alternative-folk/pop singer/songwriter Gregory Douglass states that the song is about the demon inside of us all. He also donated one of the bonus holiday tracks-What A Long Year It Was (15) from is holiday EP, Merry.

Amber deLaurentis started her career in Philadelphia as part of a European tour sponsored by Steve Madden shoes. She now resides in Vermont where she not only continues her singer/songwriter career, but also teaches vocal jazz at the University of Vermont. Her donated songs, Cryin’ Kind (5) is from her last release, Hey Sadie, an alt-country CD, as well as a song for the holidays, 2010 single-All Year Long (17).

Work It Out (6) from the new trio, Hotels & Highways, is from their 2011 debut album Lost River. It features singer/songwriters Patrick Thomas-who also donated a holiday track-Giving My Christmas (18)-Lisa Piccirillo, and Erin (Syd) Sidney, all of whom have their own solo careers. They are now on tour with a recent stop at the AMA conference in Nashville.

Bow Thayer donated Good Time To Holler (7) from his 2010 critically acclaimed album, Bottom of the Sky. The record faired well on the Americana and Non-Comm Triple-A radio charts. Bow is the muscle behind the annual Tweed River Music Festival.

Edie Carey was born in Vermont, grew up in Boston, spent time in Maine, and now resides in Chicago. She states that she has always felt a strong connection to Vermont and wrote Come Inside (8) in hopes of comforting someone. The song comes from her 2011 release Bring The Sea featuring Shawn Mullins.
Justin Levinson received his degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has since released two studio albums. Home (9), is from his debut release, Bury Your Love (Folk/Alt-Country). Justin is presently touring in support of his second release, “Predetermined Fate”.

Casey Lynn Dubie stepped into a recording studio in 2010 three days after her high school graduation and recorded a 4-song folk/pop EP. The title track, In Your Atmosphere (10), was donated for this project and has been picked up by Nashville song-pluggers and licensing agencies. Casey states her biggest musical influence has been John Mayer.

Pictures (11) comes from Lowell Thompsons second release, Lowell Thompson & Crown Pilot (Alt-Country) and had a shout-out by Rolling Stone magazine. He has since opened for fellow Vermonter Grace Potter and now floats between Austin, TX and Vermont.

Patti Casey is no stranger to the folk world. She has released several albums throughout her career and most recently has teamed up with the folk group Woods Tea Company. We selected Spread Joy Over This Land (12) from her recent and critically acclaimed record The Heart of a Waiting Boy.

Aaron Flinn, another graduate of Berklee, is a multi-instrumentalist and has an extensive discography. Beyond his own career, he has stepped in to play guitar for many Vermont-based groups. Aaron is releasing a new record this month entitled, Miss Ready Blossom and the Seed of Dreams. We selected his new song Singing (13) for this compilation.

Scott Forrest knows first hand the havoc raised by Irene. His town, Rochester, VT was one of the towns hit the hardest. He hasn’t had much time for music lately as he has had a shovel in his hands. Tick Tock (14) comes from When I’m In Paris. Scott won a Valentine song contest in 2009 sponsored by Garrison Keillor’s Prarie Home Companion. The winning song was O’s & X’s Rachel.

December In Vermont (16), the title track from that album, is a beautiful folk ballad by veteran singer/songwriter Diane Zeigler. It describes the beauty of winter in Vermont and the warmth of family and friends. She is presently on hiatus raising her young family.

Last but not least, Patrick Thomas (Hotels & Highways) donated the single Giving My Christmas (18). It’s a beautiful way to end this compilation. We hope you enjoy VERMONT and help spread the word.

Bluebird Promotions Newsletter September 15, 2011 - September 14, 2011

We are presently streaming Gregory Douglass’ “Better Tomorrow” (Stark) at the Bluebird Promotions website in remembrance of 9-11.

We are happy to announce our next compilation project that will serve as a fundraiser for Vermont Hurricane Irene Relief. All profits will be donated to our local Red Cross chapter. Several Vermont artists are donating a song to the upcoming compilation. Tentative release date is November 1.

“The Night” (Lucid) by Gregory Douglass was a “keeper” at the recent SPONY (Song Pitch-A-Thon) event in NYC, picked up by HBO music supervisors. We’ll “keep” our fingers crossed that they find a suitable placement for it. In other GD news, you would never think of seeing Gregory Douglass and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino (Jersey Shore-MTV) in the same sentence, but you will now. Gregory just returned from Michigan where YobiTV filmed 13 episodes for a webcast series that will air later this month. Sorrentino plays a judge in the reality talent show, while Douglass plays himself as a contestant. It should make for some interesting viewing. Rumor has it that viewers will vote for a winner at the end of the series.

Gregory will be performing this Sunday, 10:00pm, at The Living Room, NYC.

Who Is Erin McDermott? - September 5, 2011

Part-time Vermont/Part-time Nashville artist Erin McDermott serviced her new release to you a few months ago. Bluebird Promotions is now working with her to help promote her new record--"Time To Go". It is charting and we would love it if other stations came on board. Let us know if you received. Thanks! Here's more about Erin--

Genres: Country/Americana/Folk
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/time-to-go/id444690558
Bio:
Meet Erin McDermott before the gig, with a Guinness in her hand and a self-effacing wit at the ready, and you'd never suspect the transformation that's about to take place. But when she sets down her pint and steps onto stage, pay attention. A spruce-topped six string launches into a steam-driving rhythm and her voice rises, gaining power and soaring to a pure quavering vulnerability that makes even the club regulars, the ones who've heard it all, stop talking and really listen. And why not? It's more than the alt-folk barnburners and whiskied-up ballads Erin conjures, the achingly rich, superbly rendered tales of rural America present and past. It's more than the magnificent players she surrounds herself with, from the hottest pickers in Vermont's Green Mountains to the Nashville hotshots like Grammy Award winner Tim O'Brien, IBMA "Guitarist of the Year" Bryan Sutton, and ACM "Fiddle Player of the Year" Stuart Duncan, who back her up on her latest album, "Time to Go". When Erin McDermott sings, it's an emotional testament to what it is to be human--the sweet and the bitter of life, the pure glory and the heartbreaking, bewildering loss. Live or on record, she's a performer you don't want to miss.

Erin considers her music "Folkass" (a little bit of folk, little bit of bluegrass, and a little bit of everything else). A keen observer of the human experience, she has gathered countless reaching toward lighthearted enthusiasm, Erin possesses a powerful gift for communicating her life stories through song. "Time to Go" was produced by Brent Truitt in his Nashville studio. He is known for his work with the Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton to name a few.

Quotes:
"Take a cup each of Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading and Macy Gray, put them in a pot, allow them to simmer for any amount of time, sprinkle on a little Sade and it will yield Erin McDermott, a deliciously new "sista voice", a new and rising star."
-Odessa Settles (Settles Connection)

"Erin McDermott writes short stories in song about small town life in Vermont. Her characters come alive in the songs and you get to know these real people by the the time the second chorus comes around. With a voice as strong and as uniquely expressive as her lyrics, Erin is a songwriter to watch in the coming years."
-Tim O'Brien (Grammy Award Winner Singer/Songwriter)

I am late getting the newsletter out as I have been playing catch-up since returning from a short European tour with Bella Voce Women's Chorus of Vermont. We had a fabulous time. It was surreal to perform in an 800-year old church! At any rate, we are busy getting the music of our artists out. We presently have several songs in the hands of TV/Film music supervisors and a couple of licensing agencies as well as our song-plugging friends at Sharp Objects in Nashville.

Radio Update
Hotels & Highways release "Lost River" is still receiving airplay and our new friends at WFDU just added the record. We hope more stations come on board. H&H will be back on tour soon with Australian award-winner, Mia Dyson.
http://www.hotelsandhighways.com
Airplay for Gregory Douglass' new release, "Lucid", is just beginning and we thank the most recent stations KUNC and KDNK for joining the early believers.

A BIG shout-out to WMUD, WBKM, WGDR, and VPR radio for being our biggest supporters here in VT.

BB Donates To Radio
Bluebird Promotions has donated copies of "Vicissitudes, Vol. II", a compilation CD of Vermont singer/songwriters, to public and community radio who rely on donations to keep their stations running. If your station didn't receive copies and would like a few, please let us know.

Solar Fest Results Are In
Congratulations to Patrick Fitzsimmons for placing third in the singer/songwriter competition at Solarfest (Tinmouth, VT). Past contestants have included Ray Lamontagne (sorry he didn't place that particular year) and Gregory Douglass (placed second that year). Patrick will be performing at the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival at the Burlington, VT Waterfront Park in August. Patrick is currently working on a new record.

Also congrats to Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck for landing a showcase at Solar Fest as well as the Tweed River Festival.

Gregory Douglass To Headline at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center
After opening for Shawn Colvin at the new Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe, VT, Gregory was offered his own show. On August 6 he will perform songs from his new release, “LUCID”--an alternative/pop "dream" concept album. Myra Flynn opens and will perform songs from her August release, "For The Record", produced by Gregory. Other upcoming east coast shows include:
August 13--One Longfellow Square, Portland, Maine, 8:00pm (supporting Mary Fahl--October Project)
