September Newsletter - September 26, 2010

Vermont In Nashville:

What an awesome time I had in Nashville at the AMA Music Conference. I met people I have talked to over the phone or have e-mail communication with, and finally have a face to the name. It was great to meet new people and trade business cards. The Vermont Americana CD was put in 700+ goody-bags. We're hoping listeners enjoy it. Besides attending many workshops with industry panelists and performance showcases, the AMA Awards/Performance ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium was a big treat. In attendance either presenting or performing were: Emmy Lou Harris, Patty Griffin, John Mellencamp, Rosanne Cash, Buddy Miller, John Oats, Wanda Jackson, The Avett Brothers, to name a few, and Vermont's own Grace Potter presented an award. Speaking of Grace, she was one of many performers in the tribute showcase of the Rolling Stones re-release of Exile On Main Street. It was a kick-ass performance. Jed Hilly (President of AMA) welcomed the audience at The Cannery in a Vermont T-Shirt! (I recently found out he is from Waitsfield, VT). Other highlights include hearing former Vermonter Todd Thibaud at The Basement as well as Chip Taylor (the writer of Wild Thing and Angel of the Morning). And if that wasn't enough, Robert Plant and his Band of Joy made a surprise performance appearance at the Ryman after the Awards Ceremony! Thank you Nashville and AMA! There are a few photos posted at the Bluebird website photo page.

The party hasn't ended yet. We are going to celebrate Vermont Americana with a show at Higher Ground in So. Burlington, VT, November 14 at 7:00pm featuring Patrick Fitzsimmons, Amber deLaurentis, Justin Levinson, and Lisa Piccirillo. We're also going to sell the remaining CDs for $10.00 donating $1.00 per CD to Vermont's "Make A Wish Foundation". Tickets will go on sale soon.

ARTIST NEWS:
Lisa Piccirillo came in first via most fan-votes at ourstage.com for an opening act at Lilith Fair-Hartford and Edie Carey came in first via most fan-votes at ourstage.com for an opening act at Lilth Fair-Chicago! Unfortunately, the fine print says that Lilith Fair promoters have the final say as to who opens in each city. Lisa & Edie will not be opening in those cities. But, it is a feature in their caps to have reached first place via fan-votes.

Patrick Fitzsimmons helped bring in $20,000. to the recent Hope Lodge Benefit. Hope Lodge is based in Burlington near Fletcher Allen Hospital. The benefit dinner, auction and concert was held at Shelburne Farms. Yea Patrick!

Amber Delaurentis' song "Upside Down" is doing well at Jango radio and ourstage.com

Lisa's CD, "Momentum", is being reviewed by UK blogger Simon at:
http://www.higherplainmusic.com Simon learned about Lisa when she recently co-hosted a Gregory Douglass' Virtual Concert.

Edie Carey's new CD release, "Bring the Sea", will be out in October. I have had the opportunity to hear the tunes. You will want to own this CD. Visit her website to pre-order!!
http://www.ediecarey.com
Colin McCaffrey is producing Casey Lynn's first EP, due out this fall. I was able to witness the recording process. She was a pro in the studio. And Colin is a great producer besides a great singer/songwriter himself.

Glory News:
I just spent a week at the VT Midi camp at Castleton College. It is always invigorating to hang out with colleagues and learn new stuff! I wrote a jingle that my colleagues feel would be most appropriate for a baby or pet commercial. It's called "Yellow Marshmallows". I also continued work on my Cancer Song Cycle (SSA) and had an opportunity to work with VT composer, Erik Nielsen.
http://www.vtmidi.org
And, I just completed a CD compilation project that features a few VT songwriters that will go to Nashville for the Americana Music Conference in September. Stay tuned for a performance that will showcase these songwriters!
